What are chip cards? The chip only contains your card number, name, and other account information. There is no other personal information stored on the chip. Due to security in the chip, every transaction you make is unique (instead of static), which makes it extremely difficult for the card to be copied or counterfeited. Your chip card will also have the usual magnetic stripe on the back so that you can continue using your card while merchants are transitioning to new chip card terminals.
What are the benefits of chip technology? A chip card is extremely difficult to counterfeit. The embedded microchip provides dynamic transaction security features and other capabilities not possible with traditional magnetic stripe cards.
How is this card different from a magnetic strip card? A chip card looks just like a traditional card but has an embedded chip in addition to the standard magnetic stripe on the back of the card. Rather than swiping your card, you'll insert your chip card into the card reader portion of the terminal to complete the transaction.
How does chip technology work? Every transaction with a chip card has unique data in it. Chip transactions are dynamic and unique with each use, not static like magnetic stripe cards. That's why if someone was able to intercept one of your chip transactions they would not be able to use that information again. This stops fraudsters from being able to create counterfeit chip cards.
Are chip cards new? Although chip cards are relatively new in the U.S., they've been used elsewhere for many years. In some countries, particularly in Europe, merchants may be more familiar with accepting chip cards.
Where can I use my chip card? You can use your chip card at the same merchants you do now. Simply insert the card into card terminals that are chip enabled. For merchant locations that have not yet switched to chip-enabled card terminals, swipe your card to use the magnetic stripe. You can also continue to use your card as you did before for online payments, telephone payments, and at ATMs.

Why does my new card contain a microchip? Orange County's Credit Union is moving to chip technology because it provides more security and ease of use in other countries and is expected to become standard in the U.S.
What are some of the benefits of my new debit card? • Debit Mastercard can be used worldwide wherever you see the Mastercard logo. • Use at 29,500 surcharge-free CO-OP ATMs nationwide. • Zero Liability protects you in the event that your card is used to make unauthorized purchases – whether made in a store, by phone, or online.
Can I keep my old card instead? No. Your current card is being discontinued, so to enjoy uninterrupted service, it's important to activate and begin using your new Debit Mastercard as soon as it arrives.
I currently have a PIN (Personal Identification Number) for my debit card. Will it remain the same? No, your current PIN will not apply to your new Debit Mastercard. Instead, you'll be issued a new PIN. If you'd like a different PIN, simply call (888) 891-2435 and follow the prompts to self-select your PIN. It's easy, secure, and no waiting for a PIN to arrive in the mail.
What do I need to do about automatic/recurring payments set up on my current debit card? You'll need to contact your payees and provide your new Debit Mastercard number and expiration date.
What devices can I use with Apple Pay? Apple Pay will work with iPhone® 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPad mini™ 3, and iPad Air® 2.
Why doesn't Apple Pay work on older devices? The technology required for Apple Pay, Near Field Communication (NFC) and a secure element chip, was not available on previous devices.
Is Apple Pay secure? Yes. Apple introduced a two-part security solution for Apple Pay. You must authenticate the transaction with your fingerprint using Touch ID™. Plus, your account information is not stored on the device. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is stored securely on the individual device. Even if someone hacked your phone, no account information can be stolen.
What is a Device Account Number? For security and to protect your card number, a Device Account Number (sometimes referred to as a token account number) is created when you add your credit card to Apple Pay. This is a separate and unique device-specific number linked to your credit card. This Device Account Number may be different from your plastic card number. The last four digits of your Device Account Number are listed under the last four digits of your credit card number. To locate it, tap Wallet & Apple Pay, tap the card, and scroll down. It should be used whenever an Apple Pay merchant requests the last four digits of your credit card number.
When will Apple Pay work in other parts of the world? You can use Apple Pay for purchases with your iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus now in stores that accept contactless payments.
What is a contactless payment? Contactless payments are transactions that use chip-based technology and require no physical connection between the payment device (a card or mobile device) and the physical merchant terminal.
Will I be charged a fee for Apple Pay? The Credit Union will not charge our Members a fee to use Apple Pay.
Which Credit Union cards will I be able to use with Apple Pay? Your new Debit Mastercard will be eligible for Apple Pay in the near future. Our Mastercard Platinum Rewards and Select Credit Cards can be used with Apple Pay.
What is a default card for Apple Pay? Your default card for Apple Pay is the card that is automatically used every time you make a purchase.
How do I set my debit card as my default card for Apple Pay? Go to Settings, Wallet & Apple Pay, and select Default Card. Choose your debit card as your default. You only need to do it once.
Can I put multiple cards on my Apple device? Yes. At this time Apple, allows up to eight cards on your device.
Can I put the same card on multiple devices? Yes. You can add a card on up to 10 devices, enabled with Apple Pay.
Once I add my debit card, how can I suspend or remove a card from a device? You can remove a card by selecting "Remove Card" in the Wallet & Apple Pay application.
Or, if you have an iCloud account, go to Settings on iCloud.com:
1. Click an Apple device listed below My Devices. If you don't see the My Devices section, your account just has access limited to iCloud Web-only features. To gain access to other iCloud features, set up iCloud on your Apple device.
2. Below the list of cards on the right, click Remove or Remove All.
If you remove a card from an Apple device set up to use Apple Pay, the ability to spend using that card is removed, even if the device is offline. After removing the card, you can add it back using the Wallet (or Passbook) app on your device.
You can also use the Find My iPhone app to temporarily suspend or permanently cancel the ability to pay with a card on your device.
How do I get a refund or return merchandise with Apple Pay? The cashier can use the Device Account Number to find the purchase and process the return, just like they would with a traditional credit or debit card payment. To see the last four digits of the Device Account Number, go to Wallet & Apple Pay, tap the card, and scroll down to locate. If the cashier needs your card details to process the return, you can follow the same steps for making a payment. Hold your phone near the reader, select the card you used to make the original payment, and authorize the return with Touch ID or your passcode. Depending on the return and refund policies of the store, it may take up to several days for the return transaction to appear on your statement.
What happens when the Credit Union sends me a new card after it is added to Apple Pay? When a new card is issued with an updated expiration date or new card number, you'll need to remove the old card from Apple Pay using the “Remove Card” option and add the new card.
What if my Apple device is lost or stolen after I have added my debit card? If your Apple device is lost or stolen, you need to notify your mobile carrier and call the Member Service number located on the back of your card promptly. Mention that you participate in Apple Pay so that we can disable your token account number for use with Apple Pay. If you locate your device, contact us because in some cases, we can reactivate the token on your phone before making any Apple Pay purchases.
You can also go to iCloud.com/find or the Find My iPhone app to suspend or permanently remove the ability to pay from that device with Apple Pay.
