What is Mastercard® Automatic Billing Updater?
Mastercard’s Automatic Billing Updater (ABU) is a tool used by merchants to automatically update cardholder account changes – like new debit or credit card numbers – to ensure as little disruption as possible for your card-on-file transactions and automatic payments. Below are some frequently asked questions.
The Automatic BIlling Updater will be available starting July 14, 2020.
Card-on-file transactions are payments processed using a card number you’ve stored with a merchant, service provider, or website by creating an account and saving your debit or credit card information:
- Transportation services (e.g., Uber or Lyft)
- Online retailers (e.g., Amazon)
- Movie, music, or eBook streaming or downloading services (e.g., Netflix, Spotify, etc.)
- Online payment services (e.g., Paypal)
- Pharmacies
Automated payments are recurring payments you set up with a merchant or service provider and may include:
- Phone, cable, television, or internet service
- Utilities
- Homeowners’ association dues
- Music, magazine, or satellite radio subscriptions
- Gym membership
- Anti-virus software
- Insurance premiums
- Recurring charitable donations
If you have an Orange County’s Credit Union debit or credit card, you’re already enrolled and no action is required from you.
No. Automatic Billing Updater is only used by participating merchants and they choose the frequency at which they check for updated payment information. To avoid late payments and penalties, be sure to verify that the merchant has your most current card information.
Participation is at the merchant’s discretion. The Credit Union does not have a merchant list.
No. This is a free service the Credit Union provides to its Members.
